Who Gives.... East Gwillimbury?? 'Fill A Purse For A Sister' campaign is back for 2021
Fill A Purse For A Sister brings comfort, hope, dignity to women and youth in crisis. Angel Freedman is the president & founder of the campaign that she started in her living room in 2015. Angel’s mission is to promote awareness around domestic violence and as she says “Make this a better world, one community at a time. Angela is a registered social worker in Stouffville. Angel gets donations of purses and new items to fill the purses and donates to non-profits who support women in crisis. Belinda’s Place and the Women’s Centre of York Region get some purses each year, as well as many other locations in the GTA. The York Region Police are a huge help with most of the pick-up and deliveries. Every year the campaign has grown and now has 28 regional Ambassadors including 2 in East Gwillimbury. Kim Ross from Mount Albert and Deirdre Marshell Pulchinski Holland Landing and Sharon. Ambassadors are responsible to arrange locations for drop-offs, spread the word and encourage donations, contact local women’s shelters to find out the needs, and arrange delivery. The Ambassadors can help pack donated purses with items that have been donated. If you have a purse but not much to fill it with or if you have lots of items to fill but don't have a bag, the ambassadors can help.
If you have a new or gently used purse and or contents to fill the purses that you would like to donate there are two locations in East Gwillimbury. Drop off locations are Lighthouse Café 4-19149 Center Street Mount Albert 905 557-285 and Holland Landing Health Center 19415 Yonge St. Unit 6 Holland Landing 905 853 7900

Last year, East Gwillimbury generously donated 157 filled purses. Kim told me this year her goal is 200. The Campaign ends December 1 if you would like to donate there is still lots of time.
